Ivania Carpio operates a material-led design practice. Working between functional object and artifact, she develops editions and scenographic works from her Antwerp base.
Through glass casting and experimental fabrication, the studio produces vessels, containers, plinths and spatial constructions with a dense, tactile quality. The practice is concerned with objects as tools for framing attention. Forms that assign significance, define space, and articulate relationships between material and time. It investigates containment as a perceptual device, how it organises how we look, move, and experience space.
Ivania Carpio was born in Managua, Nicaragua in 1988 and relocated to the Netherlands at the age of eleven. Her work has been shaped by shifts between geographies, systems, and modes of production, spanning digital and physical contexts. In 2016, she founded Aetelier, a design studio operating across a series of temporary sites until 2021. Since 2022, she has been based in Antwerp, Belgium, where she established her current practice.
